Your terminal manipulation/navigation setups
Dear Lobste.rs, over a year after my previous post on mouse free setups , your advice was instrumental to building the tech stack I use today as a disabled person, composed of the Svalboard, Talon Voice, and a fair few extensions for Talon (including ones I've written myself.) One aspect of my work and personal life that has remained stubbornly able-bodied has been, surprisingly, my terminal use. Reading, manipulating, and editing the terminal has required keyboard and mouse use at every step: When reading the terminal, scrolling is a must, which demands the use of a physical scrolling device,

F3 Lightning: How Meta Accelerates Ads ML Features to Production at Scale
Facebook Feature Framework (F3) is Meta’s framework for authoring, compiling, and serving the machine learning features underlying ads ranking models, where a single request can require more than 20,000 features. We first presented F3 at AI @ Scale 2020. F3 reduced execution computational costs by compiling all features into a single merged graph, but that [...] Read More... Qwen 3.8 27B on my laptop can interpret model weights, too
Yesterday's hot paper was Sparks of Weight-Space Programming: LLMs can natively read & write neural network weights by Rikiya Takehi, Jayden Teoh, Alex Zhang, and Omar Khattab. The paper (OK, the authors classify is as a "blog post", but it's paper-shaped) found that frontier models, in particular GPT-6 Astra, can both interpret and modify the raw weights of a machine learning model - literally a text description of the model containing a bunch of floating point numbers. I've been playing with one of the examples from the paper and I'm delighted to share that Qwen 3.8 27B running on my laptop

Steve Jobs on His Final Quarterly Analyst Call: ‘We Think the Open Versus Closed Argument Is Just a Smokescreen’
After linking to it earlier today, I re-read Steve Jobs’s remarks from his last appearance on a quarterly analyst call. It’s a banger of a good read: You know, even if Google were right, and the real issue is “closed” versus “open,” it is worthwhile to remember that open systems don’t always win. Take Microsoft’s “Plays For Sure” music strategy, which used the PC model — which Android uses as well — of separating the software components from the hardware components. Even Microsoft finally abandoned this “open” strategy in favor of copying Apple’s integrated approach with their Zune player, unf
