Can our data center expertise help with AI verification?
(Also posted on EA Forum .) Treaties to pause training or otherwise restrict dangerous uses of AI would require difficult verification schemes. Plan A's proposal is that network taps inside data centers would record copies of traffic (or hashes of it), and later recomputations on random samples could check whether sampled outputs match declared workloads, as part of a broader verification scheme. I'm an AI engineer at a company building tools for the construction industry. Much of our work is with data centers. The architects, engineers and construction managers on our team work every week wit

💾 Fighting DOGE's Data Grab | EFFector 38.19
When we give our private information to the government to pay taxes, apply for a job, or vote, we should be able to trust that our data won't later be used against us. But in a betrayal of that trust, the federal government has been pooling the information it has about us on an unprecedented scale—and using it for purposes we never agreed to. EFF and other groups are fighting back. In our latest EFFector newsletter , we're talking about a recent victory in our lawsuit against the government for sharing federal workers' confidential personnel files with DOGE . Sync real-time Stripe data to Postgres with Stripe Data Pipeline
Applications rely on current Stripe data to fulfill orders, update customer accounts, and manage access to paid features. Until now, developers have had to build and maintain custom integrations to keep application databases in sync with Stripe. We’re introducing real-time sync to Postgres for Stripe Data Pipeline, which lets them keep databases current without having to build custom integrations.

OpenAI Might Rebrand Its Data Centers As 'AI Compute Campuses'
An anonymous reader quotes a report from TechCrunch: Data centers are deeply unpopular. But what if we called them something else? Axios reports that OpenAI is preparing a "PR blitz" for after the midterm elections on Tuesday, as Democrats seem likely to win back the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate, too. The company's chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane told Axios that the midterms will be "a bit of a movie trailer for what you're going to see in 2028," when he expects AI to be "the issue" in the presidential election. So OpenAI is to influence the AI debate moving forw

Chemical Data Collected from the Eaton Fire Plume Help Characterize Urban Fires
Caltech scientists have published the first detailed analysis of the atmospheric particles in the smoke plume from the Eaton Fire that devastated much of the town of Altadena in Southern California's San Gabriel Valley and the surrounding areas in January 2025. The results confirm the very different chemical nature of the smoke produced by an urban fire as compared to the plume from a typical wildfire. In the early stages of the fire, when many structures and vehicles were burning, the concentration of toxic metals in the atmosphere spiked dramatically. This chemical signature, which was measu
